Introduction

Mission

To combine education, research, and scientific inquiry to create new knowledge, nurture scholars, and develop university-level research education.

MNUMS Graduate School's Academic Training Center implements master's and doctoral classroom training programs in Clinical Medicine, Traditional Medicine, Public Health, Dentistry, Biomedical Sciences, Nursing, and Pharmacy.

Activities

  • Organize and provide training through 20 master's and doctoral programs under unified guidance
  • Organize master's and doctoral admissions, enrollment, and graduation
  • Develop and approve master's and doctoral training plans, schedules, and program updates
  • Organize program accreditation through domestic and international accreditation bodies
  • Organize training for international students
  • Conduct tripartite agreements between master's/doctoral students and supervisors
  • Provide preliminary consultation for master's and doctoral thesis work
  • Resolve student transfer issues
  • Calculate graduation training credit hours
  • Introduce advanced training technologies

Doctoral Training (PhD)

MNUMS Graduate School activities are regulated by Order A/28 dated February 9, 2021, of the MNUMS Director, Appendix 1: REGULATIONS ON GRADUATE EDUCATION ACTIVITIES OF THE NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF MEDICAL SCIENCES. Master's and doctoral admissions are held twice a year.

Doctoral students conduct research work in accordance with Article 7.12 of the Regulations on Graduate Education Activities. This includes:

  1. Department meeting:
    • Approve research topic,
    • Research methodology,
    • Appoint supervisor and advisor
  2. School Academic Council:
    • Approve research topic,
    • Research methodology,
    • APPROVE supervisor and advisor
  3. Research Ethics Committee meeting: Obtain PERMISSION to start research:
    • 7.12.8 Publish 2 or more articles as first author under MNUMS name in peer-reviewed international journals. One of these must be published in a journal indexed in Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed OR Central Asian Journal of Medical Sciences.
    • 7.12.9 Publish 2 or more articles in domestic journals. One of these must be published in the Health Science journal.
  4. Professional JOURNAL CLUB, department meeting:
    • Discuss research progress
  5. School Academic Council:
    • APPROVE research progress results
  6. Research Ethics Committee meeting: CONCLUSION that research ethics standards were not violated:

Master's Training

MNUMS Graduate School activities are regulated by Order A/28 dated February 9, 2021, of the MNUMS Director, Appendix 1: REGULATIONS ON GRADUATE EDUCATION ACTIVITIES OF THE NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF MEDICAL SCIENCES. Master's and doctoral admissions are held twice a year (Spring: February 1-15, Fall: August 25 - September 10).

Students write and defend their master's thesis in the following sequence:

  1. Complete 12 credits of professional core courses
  2. Department meeting: (Department announces the meeting)
    • Approve research topic
    • Approve research methodology
    • Appoint supervisor and advisor
  3. Obtain ethics approval from Ethics Committee meeting
  4. Complete 9 credits of specialization courses
  5. Start research (Publish scientific articles)
  6. Present at department meeting progress review once
  7. Obtain ethics conclusion from Ethics Committee meeting
  8. Preliminary defense: (As specified in Article 4.2 of REGULATIONS ON GRADUATE EDUCATION ACTIVITIES)

Admission

Admission Announcement

MNUMS 2025-2026 academic year Master's and Doctoral fall admission is now open

Registration for the 2025-2026 academic year Master's and Doctoral fall admission will continue from August 22, 2025 to September 4, 2025 at 17:00.

The admission exam will be held online on September 7, 2025. The exam instructions, code, username, and password will be posted on the website the day before the exam to confirm registration. Please note that registration will be cancelled if personal information is incomplete or submitted materials do not meet requirements.

According to the Graduate Education Regulations, Master's and Doctoral applicants will take professional and English language exams.

Information on all successful applicants will be posted on the Graduate Education Policy and Coordination Office website on September 8.

Admission Process

MNUMS Graduate School activities are regulated by Order A/28 dated February 9, 2021, of the MNUMS Director, Appendix 1: REGULATIONS ON GRADUATE EDUCATION ACTIVITIES OF THE NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF MEDICAL SCIENCES. Master's and doctoral admissions have 2 stages.

Register online at http://gp.mnums.edu.mn 3 weeks before the admission exam. Online registration period is at least 10 days.

Based on online registration, the exam schedule will be released, successful applicants will be selected, and in-person registration announcement will be sent 2 weeks before the start of training (via website, phone, or email). Registration period is at least 5 working days.

Fees & Requirements

Requirements for applicants: (Regulation 2.3)

  • Master's and Doctoral program applicants must meet the admission exam requirements developed by the Graduate School for the specific field of study.
  • Master's program applicants must have a bachelor's degree or equivalent, with a GPA of at least 2.5 (75%).
  • Doctoral program applicants must have a Master of Science degree or equivalent, with a GPA of at least 3.0 (80%).
  • If an applicant wishes to enroll in a Master's or Doctoral program in a different field than previously studied, they must complete prerequisite courses to ensure curriculum continuity. These courses are not counted toward the program's core credits.
  • Foreign students choosing a Mongolian-language program must meet Mongolian language proficiency requirements. Students under intergovernmental agreements must comply with the conditions specified in the agreement.
  • Foreign students choosing an English-language program must meet the admission exam requirements jointly developed by the Foreign Language Center and Graduate School. Additional requirements may be imposed based on the specific program content and characteristics, upon recommendation from the constituent school, professional department, or unit.

For the 2025-2026 fall academic year, applications for changing direction, reinstating study rights, temporary leave, and permanent leave from graduate training will be accepted from August 24 to September 8, 2025. Please submit applications to the Graduate Education Policy and Coordination Office, Room 02 of the Graduate School.

Research Scholarship

Rector's Research Scholarship Regulations

MNUMS RECTOR'S RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP

Research scholarships are provided to master's and doctoral students conducting research at MNUMS institutes and laboratories for purchasing reagents, equipment, software, and publishing articles.

  • Master's students – up to 3 million MNT
  • Doctoral students – up to 5 million MNT
  • Awarded to up to 50 students

Requirements for Scholarship Applicants

  • Must be a citizen of Mongolia
  • Must be enrolled in MNUMS master's or doctoral program according to the curriculum with a GPA of 3.2 or higher
  • Must have discussed research topic and methodology according to Graduate Education Regulations
  • Must not have transferred between schools, departments, or programs
  • Research must be conducted at MNUMS research institutes, laboratories, or hospitals
  • Must have support from the relevant department or professor team for the scholarship
