History of the Graduate School (2017–2026)

2017

By Resolution No. 004 of the MNUMS Governing Board dated November 30, 2017, on the "Establishment of the Graduate School," the Director of MNUMS was authorized to restructure the Academic and Professional Training Division into the Graduate School of the constituent school for the 2018–2019 academic year.

The first graduation of the International Cyber University, which became the foundation of the Graduate School's International Online Education Center, was held. Based on the minutes of the Medical Education and Nursing Scientists Council meeting No. 17/4-1 dated April 12, 2017, and Order A/48 of the MNUMS Director, 67 master's research project proposals were approved, and by Order A/86 dated June 8, 2017, master's degrees in Public Health were conferred on 67 students.

The Department of Medical Education Studies, which became the foundation of the Graduate School's Department of Medical Law and Education Studies, was initially established as a part-time department under the Medical Education Center by Order A/01 of the MNUMS Director dated September 28, 2017. The first head of the department was Prof. N.Sümberzul (MD), with faculty members including Prof. D.Amarsaikhan, Prof. S.Naranchimeg, Prof. B.Oyungoo, Assoc. Prof. B.Solongo, Assoc. Prof. S.Oyuntsetseg, Assoc. Prof. O.Bolorsaikhan, Dr. O.Bolormaa, MPH S.Ser-od, MPH T.Sumyaasüren, MA B.Bayarbat, MA B.Baljinnyam, MA M.Ösokhbayar, and MA M.Enkhtögöldör.

2018

Based on the MNUMS Governing Board resolution, by Order A/135 of the MNUMS Director dated October 1, 2018, on "Approving the Structure and Staffing of the Graduate School," the Graduate School was established within MNUMS with an Academic Council, Academic Training Department, and International Cyber Training Department, with positions for a director, department heads, 5 methodologists, 2 specialists, and 2 IT engineers. This order dissolved the Academic and Professional Training Division and the International Cyber University, transferring master's, doctoral, and online master's programs to the Graduate School.

Dr. B.Damdindorj (MD) was appointed as the first Director of the Graduate School.

Prof. O.Chimedsüren (MD) was appointed as the first head of the International Cyber Training Department, with Ö.Münkhzul and E.Renchindorj as methodologists, A.Enkhdölgöön as specialist, and B.Battsetseg and M.Iveelbolod as engineers.

Dr. N.Tsengelsaikhan (MD) was appointed as the first head of the Academic Training Department, with T.Möngönzaya, S.Tsendsüren, and R.Ölzii-orshikh as methodologists, and Kh.Anir as specialist.

By Order A/159 of the MNUMS Director dated October 29, 2018, the Graduate Academic Council and the Graduate School Program Committee were established.

2019

Prof. A.Tsend-Ayush (MD) was appointed as head of the Graduate School's Academic Training Department from December 2019.

The international online training conducted by the International Cyber Training Department was selected as MNUMS's "Notable Event of 2019."

The national conference on "Air Pollution and Health" was co-organized under the patronage of the Prime Minister of Mongolia.

An interdisciplinary discussion on "Engaging Public and Private Sector Organizations in Protecting Adolescent Health" was co-organized with UNICEF and the Burnet Institute of Australia.

2020

By Order A/69 of the MNUMS Director dated April 6, 2020, on "Amendments to the Graduate School Structure," the Institute of Mongolian Medical Sources, the Institute of Neuroscience, and the Institute of Medical Law were transferred under the Graduate School.

By Order A/78 of the MNUMS Director dated April 14, 2020, on "Approving the Revised Structure of the Graduate School," the Graduate School was restructured to include an Academic Council overseeing the Central Asian Journal of Medical Sciences (CAJMS) and the Health Sciences Journal (HSJ), a Program Sub-committee, Academic Training Department, International Cyber Training Department, Institute of Mongolian Medical Sources, Institute of Medical Law, and Institute of Neuroscience.

By Order A/80 of the MNUMS Director dated April 14, 2020, the Mongolian Language Training Center was established under the Academic Training Department of the Graduate School.

Assoc. Prof. A.Avarzed (MD) was appointed as head of the Academic Training Department in April 2020.

Prof. B.Münkhbat (ScD) was appointed as head of the Academic Training Department from July 2020.

By Order B/398 of the MNUMS Director dated September 30, 2020, Dr. L.Battüvshin was relieved of duties as Director of the Institute of Neuroscience and appointed as Acting Director of the Graduate School.

Assoc. Prof. A.Avarzed (MD) was appointed as head of the International Cyber Training Department.

A.Avarzed, head of the International Cyber Training Department, was awarded the title of Associate Professor.

A paper by E.Renchindorj and Prof. O.Chimedsüren of the International Cyber Training Department was published in Lancet Global Health (site score 32.1, IF 26.763). By Order B/133 of the MNUMS Director dated March 31, 2021, Prof. N.Sümberzul (MD) was relieved of duties as Professor of the Academic Training Department and appointed as Director of the Graduate School.

By Order A/111 of the MNUMS Director dated May 21, 2021, the Graduate School was restructured under the direct supervision of the Graduate Training Policy and Coordination Office, with an Academic Council, Program Sub-committee, Health Research Department, Department of Medical Law and Education Studies, and International Online Education Center, with positions for a director, 2 department heads, a center head, 7 faculty, 4 methodologists, and an IT specialist.

Prof. B.Münkhbat (ScD) was appointed as head of the Department of Medical Law and Education Studies.

Dr. Ch.Batsüren (MD) was appointed as head of the Health Research Department.

Assoc. Prof. A.Avarzed (MD) was appointed as head of the International Online Education Center.

Prof. B.Münkhbat (ScD) became the first recipient of the Mongolian Academy of Medical Sciences' highest award, the "Academician P.Nyamdavaa" Gold Medal.

The Graduate School co-organized the international training seminar "Basic Techniques in Neuroscience" with the International Brain Research Organization and the Mongolian Neuroscience Society, held online from August 9–14, 2021.

A full revision of the core subject content for graduate training programs was completed.

By order of the MNUMS Director, Prof. N.Sümberzul (MD) was relieved of duties as Director of the Graduate School and appointed as Professor of the Department of Medical Education Studies.

Assoc. Prof. A.Shiirevnyamba (MD) was appointed as Director of the Graduate School.

Sh.Üürtuya was appointed as head of the Department of Medical Law and Education Studies, and J.Jambaldorj was appointed as head of the Health Research Department.

By Order B/192 of the MNUMS Director dated May 8, 2025, Assoc. Prof. Sh.Üürtuya (MD) was relieved of duties as head of the Department of Medical Law and Education Studies and appointed as Director of the Graduate School.

Prof. A.Shiirevnyamba (MD) was relieved of duties as Director of the Graduate School and appointed as head of the Department of Medical Law and Education Studies.

By Resolution No. 03 of the MNUMS Governing Board dated October 10, 2025, the Graduate School was renamed the Advanced Studies School.

By Order A/280 of the MNUMS Director dated November 3, 2025, the school was restructured into the Academic Training Center, International Online Education Center, Interdisciplinary Training Center, and Postgraduate Training Center, with 4 center heads, a professor team, 2 senior specialists, 3 specialists, and an IT specialist.

Assoc. Prof. Sh.Üürtuya (MD) was appointed as Director of the Graduate School.

By Order A/88 of the MNUMS Rector dated March 27, 2025, a working group and plan for implementing a joint doctoral program with Oita University were approved.

2026

By Order B/133 of the MNUMS Director dated January 3, 2026, a faculty member was relieved of duties as Professor of the Academic Training Department and appointed as Director of the Graduate School.

By Order A/21 of the MNUMS Rector dated January 29, 2026, the faculty and professional professor team composition of the Advanced Studies School was approved, including members of the Academic Training Center, International Online Education Center, Interdisciplinary Training Center, Postgraduate Training Center, and the postgraduate training staff of MNUMS-affiliated hospitals.
