Oita University

Starting in the 2024-2025 academic year, the collaboration between the Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences (MNUMS) and Oita University, Japan, has expanded with the launch of a joint doctoral program. Graduates of this double degree program will receive doctorates from both institutions.

Professor Seigo Kitano, Director of Oita University, Japan, and Professor Shomei Ryozawa from the Department of Gastroenterology at Saitama University, met with MNUMS Deputy Director for Education Policy and Regulation at MNUMS, Ts. Bilegtsaikhan. The meeting included Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs, D. Ulziimaa; the Director of Graduate School, A. Shiirevnyamba; faculty from the Department of Gastroenterology; Oita University alumni; and representatives from the Department of Health Research. Discussions focused on the doctoral Double Degree Program (DDP), with the School of Medicine at Oita University and the Graduate School of MNUMS, agreeing to implement the program.

A MOU and agreement was signed to initiate the Double Degree Program (DDP) as part of the expanded partnership between MNUMS and Oita University. The signing ceremony was attended by key officials, including Rector of MNUMS, Professor Damdindorj B.; the Deputy Director of Education Policy and Regulation at MNUMS, Ts. Bilegtsaikhan; the Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs, D. Ulziimaa; and the Director of Graduate School, Dr. A. Shiyrevnyamba. Representatives from Oita University, including President Dr. Seigo Kitano, Vice Director Dr. Yoshiyo Yamaoka, and Dr. Naohisa Yahagi from Keio University, also participated. Prior to the signing, discussions explored further collaboration between MNUMS and Oita University.

The Double Degree Program will admit up to five doctoral students per year, offering them the unique opportunity to graduate with diplomas from both universities. This program is the first of its kind in the field of medicine in Mongolia, providing a distinctive double-degree pathway for advanced medical studies.
